​​The Hamilton Astronomical Society (HAS) is an organisation made up purely of enthusiastic volunteers. Our base is the Hamilton Observatory, which you can find in the middle of the Hamilton Zoo carpark. One of the rare instances in the world where you will find an observatory and astronomical society next to a zoo! HAS was formed in 1933 and is one of the oldest of New Zealand's 25 amateur astronomical societies. Our core objective is to provide the people of the Waikato with an opportunity to learn about astronomy and to share their enthusiasm with like-minded people.
